
Bengaluru: To mark the 157th Gandhi Jayanthi, the Art Cultural Educational Enlight Foundation (Reg.), led by founder Smt. Ambika C, organised a Charka workshop at Nayana Sabhangana on J.C. Road here on Thursday. Gandhi Jayanti is observed on October 2 and marks Mahatma Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary in 2026.

The workshop aimed to create awareness among the younger generation about self-reliance, the use of Swadeshi products and Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals. Students from GEM School and Easy Education College, R.T. Nagar, participated in the programme.
Mrs. Syeda Rubina Kowser, Director of Easy Education College, R.T. Nagar, and Dr. H.K.S. Swamy, State Vice-President, Karnataka Jnana Vijnana Samiti and senior Charka trainer, were the chief guests. Teachers and parents also attended the event.

A hands-on spinning session was the highlight of the workshop, with students learning the traditional art of making yarn on the Charka. The Foundation said it plans to conduct similar workshops in more schools to revive the spirit of Swadeshi. Gandhi promoted charkha spinning, Khadi and Swadeshi as symbols of self-reliance.
